The morning of my appointment, a staff member called to inform me the nurse practitioner seeing me was out sick, and my appointment was canceled. When I inquired about rescheduling (after a long hold) she informed me there WAS an opening later that day. Because of past bad experiences with this staff, I even asked for confirmation of the location, time, and the name of the doctor I'd be seeing for this new appointment. When I arrived later that morning, the receptionist just stared blankly at me, telling me that my appointment was never rescheduled. I mentioned the name of the doctor I was supposed to be rescheduled with, to which the receptionist replied, "no..she doesn't have time for you." The staff treated me in a condescending and rude manner, and made no effort to apologize or accommodate me to be seen, even though I had left work and driven over an hour in traffic to be there. I requested the staff look into who had spoken to me earlier that morning, and they made no effort to do so. As a new patient, I assumed Penn Medicine would be synonymous with high quality care. While there may be a skilled medical staff, the administrative staff hindered my experience so much, I will now be looking for care outside the Penn Medicine network.

  • I love Dr. Ewing and Dr. Salva. Both are kind, compassionate medical professionals who take excellent care of their patients. I would give them both 5+ stars if this review was based on their abilities alone. I almost never have to wait when I come in, especially for OB appointments. Annual exams usually mean a bit of a weight. The nurses are wonderful, as are the CNAs. The front desk staff are all generally professional, but not particularly friendly for the most part, which is fine. No one is rude. My reason for 4 stars, not 5, is the phone staff who schedule appointments are absolutely the worst. I've spent so much time on hold waiting to schedule appointments it's ridiculous. Dr. Ewing is very popular, so she books out incredibly far in advance, but when I called to set up a new OB appointment for my pregnancy, the woman I spoke to tried to schedule me for week 13 of my pregnancy. Thankfully I was an established patient, and was able to get in sooner so I wouldn't have been precluded from early prenatal genetic screening. Overall, the hassle of the phone staff is outweighed by how awesome the doctors and nurses are.
